Exploring The World Of Cat Health Care
Dirty cats aren’t anyone’s friend, so it is important that you look after your pet and ensure that cat health care is top of the agenda. Keep your pet healthy and happy with regular grooming sessions to ensure its fur is clean. If you don’t take care of your cat and groom it regularly, you may start to notice hairballs, so always brush the hair to ensure it is kept in optimum condition. Hairballs can be a nuisance, so to prevent these be sure to brush the fur regularly to remove any loose hair. There are some cats that find hairballs hard to remove. Hopefully, your cat will be able to remove the hairball quickly and easily, but in some cases a stuck hairball can cause a blockage in the intestinal area. As a pet owner, it is important not to overlook stuck hairballs, as these can become very serious for your pet.
If you cat has long hair, you will need to brush this daily to keep on top of your cat health care routine; for short haired cats this can be stretched to weekly. Skin irritations can be quite common, so be aware of these when brushing and grooming your cat. Always start brushing along the cat’s back and move the comb from the head to the tail to optimise the grooming process. Brush your cat’s coat a couple of times on one side and then do the same for the other so that you get good grooming coverage. Take note of which way your cat’s hair grows and brush in the same direction.
Take extra care to avoid brushing the sensitive areas of your cat, such as the face and paws. If you have a cat that tries to hide when you bring out the brush, there is something else you can use that might be a little more pleasing to him. Say “hello” to the grooming glove, which makes light work of an often difficult task in cat grooming. Help make the grooming process a much smoother one by getting your cat used to it from an early age, be it with the grooming glove or a brush. If you start grooming them when they are young, many cats warm quickly to the idea of grooming and therefore many get older and don’t dread the moment you walk over with a brush as part of the daily cat health care process.
Be sure to check your cat properly when brushing, so that you can identify any abnormalities in the eyes or claws, for example. Hopefully your cat’s eyes will look fine, but as a pet owner you should be able to notice if something isn’t quite right, so check them over to see if he responds to your voice and movement. When it comes to the ears, it is vital that these are checked on a regular basis to ensure there are no mites or anything that might be obstructing the ear canal. Dirt build up can cause a whole host of problems, so be sure to keep your cat’s ears clean to reduce the chance of ear mites finding home in there. Ask any pet owner about ear mites and they will no doubt tell you that they can be persistent little creatures and hard to get rid of, so regular cat health checks are essential in the prevention. Quite simply, keep your cat’s ears clean and healthy and you will stand a much better chance of reducing the risk of infections as a result of dirt build up.
It is important to try and delve a little deeper when it comes to grooming your cat, so that you can check out any health issues before they become big problems. Give your cat a tasty treat if he remains perfectly still for you when grooming, as this will show him that he gets a worthy reward next time too. Are you suffering with a problem cat? The trick is not to try too hard to let you groom him, and instead try it on a different day. Cat health care is an important part of any pet owner’s routine, but now you can make it run much more smoothly with getting your cat used to regular grooming – he may even grow to like it!
